Bird Thai Restaurant
Amsterdam's go-to authentic Thai on the Zeedijk since 1998 — bold red and green curries and regional dishes in a busy, walk-in Chinatown spot.

On the Zeedijk in the heart of Amsterdam's Chinatown, Bird has been a Thai favourite since 1998 — the first Thai restaurant on the street, and still usually full every night. It seats around 110 across three separate rooms, so it stays atmospheric rather than cavernous.
The kitchen works only with fresh ingredients and leans into the heat and aromatics of genuine Thai cooking, with dishes drawn from regions across Thailand — Chiang Mai, Phuket, Bangkok and Isaan.
The food
The house specialities are the red and green curry sauces, which you can pair with fish, prawns, beef, chicken or pork, with plenty of vegetarian options too. Classics like Pad Thai, Tom Yam soup and Massaman curry round out a menu that locals rate among the city's best Thai.
Good to know
The restaurant is walk-in only — no reservations — so there can be a queue at busy times, but it tends to move quickly; grab a drink at the bar while you wait. For a quick bite, the sister snackbar across the street does many of the same favourites to eat in or take away.
