On the characterful Spuistraat in the city centre, Lucius is Amsterdam's oldest fish restaurant, serving the sea since 1975. It's a relaxed, informal place — no pretension, no outdated formality — with fish tanks built into the walls and a quietly classic atmosphere.
Working closely with renowned suppliers and the seasons, the kitchen offers a wide variety of the best North Sea fish, shellfish and oysters, with an emphasis on letting the natural quality of the fish speak for itself.
The food
The seafood platter — the plateau de fruits de mer, with oysters, lobster, mussels, clams and shrimp — is the showpiece, ideal for sharing. Beyond it, expect freshly prepared North Sea sole, oysters and lobster, on an uncomplicated classic menu with a few modern touches. It's open every day from early afternoon into the night.
Good to know
It's a great spot for a festive start to a night out with oysters and champagne, or a late, intimate dinner. It's small and well-loved, so booking ahead is advisable, especially at weekends.
