Sama Sebo is one of Amsterdam's classic Indonesian restaurants — a warm, long-running institution near the Museum Quarter, best known for its rijsttafel, the elaborate Dutch-Indonesian 'rice table' of many small dishes.
The food
The rijsttafel is the thing to order: a spread of small plates — satays, sambals, vegetables and richly spiced dishes — arranged around rice, meant to be shared and grazed over.
You can also order à la carte for something lighter, but the rice table is the full experience the restaurant built its name on.
Good to know
It's a sit-down, old-school kind of place, so book ahead, especially in the evening.
You'll find it close to Museumplein and the P.C. Hooftstraat — an easy stop after the Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh.
