Floating on the IJ just a few minutes from Centraal Station, Sea Palace is an Amsterdam landmark — a striking, pagoda-style Chinese restaurant, often described as the first and largest floating restaurant in Europe. Inside, statues, lanterns and ornate chinoiserie spread across three floors transport you far from the canals.
Open since 1984, it has long been one of the city's go-to spots for authentic Chinese food, focused on Cantonese cooking with Sichuan and Beijing dishes too.
The food
The freshly made dim sum is a highlight — served daily through the afternoon and meant for sharing — alongside whole roast Peking duck, Cantonese classics, seafood, hot pot and plenty of vegetarian options. There are generous set menus if you want the kitchen to guide you.
Good to know
It's a memorable setting for a group meal or a special occasion, with private dining rooms and river views; ask for a window table. Dim sum is served in the afternoon, with the full dinner menu from mid-afternoon on.
