Frederik Hendrikbuurt — the quiet triangle between Jordaan and Westerpark
A residential wedge just west of the Jordaan where the Hugo de Grootplein has quietly become one of West's best small food squares.

Squeezed between the Jordaan's canals and the Westerpark's green, the Frederik Hendrikbuurt is the neighbourhood visitors walk past — and locals quietly enjoy. Its centre of gravity is the Hugo de Grootplein, a modest square that has collected an outsized ring of good eating and drinking, from all-day cafés to serious neighbourhood restaurants, with terraces that catch the evening sun. The streets are calm, the rents (by Amsterdam standards) humane, and both the Jordaan and the Westergas culture terrain are under ten minutes on foot. Stay or eat here and you get the location without the crowds — the classic in-between-neighbourhood trade, executed well.
