Melkweg — the 'Milky Way' — is one of Amsterdam's great cultural venues, set in a former dairy just off Leidseplein. Since 1970 it has been a hub for music and counterculture, spreading concerts, club nights, film and more across its halls.
What to expect
On any given night you might catch an international band, a late club night, a film screening or an exhibition. The main music halls host everything from rising acts to established names.
The programme is genuinely eclectic, which is exactly why locals keep coming back.
Good to know
Check the programme and buy tickets ahead for popular shows. Like many Dutch venues it may ask for a small membership on top of the ticket.
It's right by Leidseplein, ringed by bars and late-night options for before and after.
