Amsterdam Strip Clubs & Adult Shows
What to expect and how to do it right
From cabaret to live shows, Amsterdam's adult venues are legal and easy to find — but a few cost a lot more than they first let on.
Adult entertainment — strip clubs, cabarets and live “erotic theatre” shows — is legal and concentrated in and around De Wallen and the Leidseplein nightlife area. Quality and honesty vary a lot, so it pays to know what you're walking into.
What's on offer
Strip and pole shows in bars and clubs.
Long-running erotic theatres with staged live shows.
Bars with dancers and cabaret-style acts.
Avoid the traps
The classic tourist mistake is a venue with a cheap-looking door price but very expensive or compulsory drinks, or “hosts” who quietly run up your bill. Check the full prices before you go in, ask exactly what's included, and be wary of anyone on the street steering you towards a “special show.”
Etiquette and rules
You'll need to be 18+ and may be asked for ID. No photos or filming of performers. Tipping is normal at stage venues; keep your hands to yourself unless a venue's rules clearly say otherwise. Treat performers as professionals at work.
Staying safe
Pay as you go rather than running a tab, keep your card in sight, and use official taxis or night transport home. If a place is pushy or won't show its prices, just walk out — there's no shortage of alternatives.
