Introduction
Each winter Amsterdam's canals become an open-air museum of light art. The 15th edition runs from 26 November 2026 to 17 January 2027, with illuminated works by international artists along a new route.
Amsterdam Light Festival transforms the historic canals into an open-air exhibition of light art. During the darkest months, local and international artists place illuminated works on, along and above the water, and you can explore them for free on foot or from a canal cruise. The 2026/2027 edition marks the festival's 15th anniversary with a brand-new route through the city.
Why visit
It's one of Amsterdam's signature winter experiences and completely free to see on foot โ a magical way to discover the canals after dark, whatever the weather.
