Introduction
On the third Saturday of January (16 January 2027), National Tulip Day opens the Dutch tulip season with a free pick-your-own tulip garden built on Dam Square — bring a bag and pick a bunch for free.
National Tulip Day marks the official start of the Dutch tulip season. Growers build a vast temporary tulip garden on Dam Square, and the public is invited to pick a free bunch — a cheerful, colourful burst of spring in the middle of winter, right in front of the Royal Palace.
Good to know
It's free and very popular, so go early before the tulips run out. The picking garden is on Dam Square for one day only.
