On the water near the Oosterdok, a short walk east of Centraal, Hannekes Boom is one of Amsterdam's most beloved waterfront hangouts. Built largely from reclaimed and salvaged materials, it has a rustic, laid-back, almost ramshackle charm.
The big draw is the canal-side terrace right on the water, where you can sit with a drink, watch the boats and soak up the sun. There's food, a friendly crowd and regular live music and DJs.
What to expect
Expect an easy-going, all-day-into-night spot — coffee and lunch, beers and cocktails, and a lively evening atmosphere with music. The crowd is a relaxed mix of locals and visitors, and in summer the waterside terrace is the place to be.
Good to know
It gets busy on warm days and evenings, so come early for a terrace seat. You can even arrive by boat. It's central and easy to reach on foot from Centraal or the NEMO/Oosterdok area.
