Wynand Fockink is a historic tasting house tucked down an alley behind Dam square, distilling jenever and liqueurs since 1679. Stepping inside is like stepping back into old Amsterdam.
What to expect
There are no seats — you stand at the bar in a tiny wood-panelled room while your glass is filled to the very brim. By tradition you take the first sip bowing over the bar, without lifting the glass.
The range of jenevers and fruit liqueurs is dizzying, and the staff will happily steer you to something you'll like.
Good to know
It's a standing, drinks-only spot rather than a restaurant — perfect for a characterful aperitif. The distillery next door offers tastings and tours.
You'll find it just off the Dam, near the Royal Palace, down the Pijlsteeg alley.
