De Krijtberg’s story reaches back to the hidden Catholic churches of Amsterdam, when congregations worshipped in buildings that did not look like churches from the street. Its name comes from a house associated with that earlier place of worship. The present church is dedicated to Saint Francis Xavier, a Jesuit missionary.
