Van der Pekbuurt is one of the oldest working-class quarters of Amsterdam-Noord, built in the 1910s as a garden village for shipyard workers.

Today the Van der Pekstraat is one of the most interesting food streets in Noord, with a lively Saturday market and a mix of old-school snackbars and new owner-run kitchens.

A five-minute Buiksloterweg ferry from Amsterdam Centraal makes it an easy low-key detour from the centre.
