Loetje aan de Amstel is right on the river between Amstelveen and Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, just south of the Amsterdam city limits. The building has the charm of a traditional brown café, and there are two terraces — one directly on the Amstel.
Rowers glide past, cyclists stop on their way along the river and boats drift by: it is a popular destination for a bike ride out of the city, and in winter you still get the water view from inside.
The food
The same Loetje formula as in town: biefstuk à la Loetje in the famous jus with white bread, fries and salad, plus a vegetarian 'biefstuk 0.0', tuna steak and chicken satay.
Good to know
It is technically outside Amsterdam, in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. By bus, get off at Ouderkerk West, about five minutes' walk. By bike it is a pleasant ride along the Amstel from the city. There is paid parking at Amstelparking around the corner and behind the restaurant. It opens at 10:00 daily.
