Loetje Oost

Loetje Oost is on the Ruyschstraat, the street linking the leafy Weesperzijde with the busy Wibautstraat. You can't miss the corner building with its handsome wooden façade and small city terrace.

With Theater Carré, the Oosterpark and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences close by, it draws a mix of locals, students and theatregoers — a good pick for dinner before a show.

The food

The classic is biefstuk à la Loetje: pan-fried tenderloin in the famous jus, with white bread to dip, fries and salad. For non-meat eaters there is a vegetarian 'biefstuk 0.0'; the bar is also a pleasant spot for just a drink.

Good to know

Metro station Wibautstraat is about five minutes' walk and the tram stops a minute away. Drivers can use the Q-Park Centrum Oost around the corner. Book ahead for evenings, especially on theatre nights at Carré.
