Shelter

Beneath the A'DAM Toren on the northern bank of the IJ, Shelter is one of Amsterdam's most respected underground clubs. Founded in 2016, it has built a serious reputation among veteran clubbers and newcomers alike for its strict, music-first focus.

A discreet entrance, low light and a state-of-the-art Funktion-One sound system set the tone, with programming centred on house, techno and the more forward edges of dance music.

What to expect

Expect a proper underground night — big international and local DJs, long hours and a crowd that's there to dance rather than be seen. It's open late at weekends, typically from around 11pm into the early hours, with sound and atmosphere the main event.

Good to know

It's across the IJ in Noord — take the free Buiksloterweg ferry from behind Centraal (running 24/7) for a quick crossing. Queues can be long for big nights, so go early where you can, and come for the music.
