The Noordermarkt is one of Amsterdam's oldest market squares, set in the heart of the Jordaan beside the Noorderkerk church (built 1620–1623).
On Monday mornings it fills with a sprawling flea market of vintage clothing, antiques, fabrics and curiosities. On Saturdays it transforms into the Boerenmarkt — an organic farmers' market famous for cheese, bread, mushrooms and local produce.
Either day, it's a quintessentially Jordaan scene: locals chatting over coffee at the cafés that ring the square, a relaxed pace, and the Noorderkerk's brick silhouette as backdrop.

Tips from locals
Go early Saturday for the best cheese and bread before it sells out.
Pair the Monday flea market with brunch at Winkel 43 next door.
Cash is handy — some stalls don't take cards.
Wander the Jordaan canals afterwards; you're right in the middle of them.
Did you know?
The Noorderkerk on the square was built between 1620 and 1623 — one of the earliest Protestant churches built specifically for that purpose in the Netherlands.
The Boerenmarkt has run every Saturday since 1987, one of the oldest organic markets in the country.
The square was the site of the Jordaan Riot of 1934, a working-class protest against benefit cuts during the Depression.
Winkel 43's apple pie, served at a café on the square, has a near-mythical status among Amsterdammers.
On the Monday flea market you can still find genuine pre-war Dutch antiques alongside the vintage clothing.
