Mitsos Greek Traiterie

Beloved Greek traiterie near the Hugo de Grootplein — crackling spanakopita and homestyle dishes at prices from another era.

Mitsos is technically a traiterie — counter service, a handful of tables, most trade in takeaway — and practically a pilgrimage site for Amsterdam's Greek community and everyone they've told. The spanakopita crackles the way it should, the meatballs and daily dishes taste of somebody's mother, and the bill lands at roughly half what a sit-down Greek in the centre would charge. Note the rhythm: closed Wednesdays and Sundays, doors shut at eight. Order generously, take it home or grab a small table, and understand why locals guard this address jealously.
